Three lives changed forever
Doug and Karla Amos of Montgomery, Ala., are new parents. On May 5, 2008, Reyn Turner Amos filled the Amos’ heart and home with that unique glow that only children can give. Doug and Karla have taken a few moments to answer some questions about their joyous experience.
Why adoption?
We discovered we had a baby-sized hole in our hearts. We also felt like adoption would serve as a ministry for us and we were right - God has certainly used this experience to transform our hearts.
Why Agape?
We knew from the start that we wanted to use Agape because we wanted to partner in their ministry. We wanted to use a Christian-based agency that would be with our family for the long haul. For Agape, it's not about profit, it's about serving God.
What was it like to get that call from Agape that you may have a child on the way?
It was a totally indescribable feeling. The world stopped, and the emotions flowed. I'll never forget the bearhug that Buddy Renahan gave me at my office when he came to tell me. And then my call to Karla at her school was filled with more tears than words.
When did it seem real?
It seemed real to us when we got her in our home because we knew she was totally dependent on us. Sometimes, we still can't believe it's real.
Would you recommend adoption to others?
Absolutely! Even though our needs were very different, God gave the three of us the ability to fill them completely.
Why would you recommend adoption to others?
We believe that if any couple is toying with the idea of adoption than it really is God's idea. Obedience to the call of adoption will fill your heart to over-flowing. It certainly has ours!
Do you ever compare adopting Reyn to your relationship with God?
Every day in every way. In embracing Reyn, we have a better understanding of how God has embraced us. As our love for Reyn will never end, we know God's love for us will never end ... and we will never be the same.
